"Pea Ridge" - Browning Homeplace
My favorite place in the world... but it's gone now.

This house was built by my Grandfather, Verge Browning, and his brother Jim.  Jim moved away after he married, but Verge continued to live there the rest of his life.  He and my Grandmother, Vada, survived the Great Depression and raised six children there.

Although it did not have indoor plumbing until the mid 50's, it was host to many family and community gatherings including fish fries, hunting trips, reunions and "get togethers".  There were large hickory, oak and pear trees on the hilltop surrounding the house, but they did not obscure the view of Catfish Creek valley and the 160 acres of of rich bottom land and pasture.

First Cousins ...

Renell Browning, Nancy DeShazo, Cheryl Browning - late 70's

Nancy and Mac McDonald, sister and brother-in-law of Verge Browning  (I am her namesake.  She did not have children of her own).  But a very interesting woman.  Check back for stories about our "infamous" Aunt Nancy!
Melba Browning visiting her Aunt Nancy's Aguila Cafe in Aguila, Arizona around 1948.  Jim Browning also lived there.  The children are his grandchildren, Dodie Taylor and Jimmy Taylor.  Their mother is Trellous Browning Taylor, daughter of Jim Browning, wife of Ira Taylor.
